Partnerships
The Physical Biosciences Division fosters a collaborative, interdisciplinary atmosphere where researchers from different backgrounds and institutions can come together to focus on problems of scale and complexity. By partnering with other institutions, we can leverage each others' expertise and facilities.

California Institute for Quantitative Biomedical Research (QB3)

The California Institute for Quantitative Biomedical Research (QB3) is one of four California Institutes for Science and Innovation established to ensure the future of the California economy by promoting research and innovation. A partnership between the state of California, private industry, venture capital, and the University of California campuses at Berkeley, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz, QB3 is bringing the benefits of biomedical research more quickly to those in need and, simultaneously, helping to sustain California?s economic growth and competitiveness.

QB3 researchers strive to understand and engineer living processes to improve human health and advance innovation in the physical sciences as applied to biological problems. Only by integrating biology with physics, chemistry, engineering, and mathematics can scientists fully grasp biological systems at all levels of complexity, from atoms and molecules to cells, organs, and entire organisms.

By promoting multidisciplinary research, creating innovative educational programs, and fostering industry partnerships, QB3 is helping to find radical new solutions to some of the most pressing biomedical issues facing humankind.

QB3 Faculty Affiliates enjoy access to world-class facilities, located at the three UC campuses and at nearby Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

New educational courses and programs are underway or in development on all three QB3 campuses, including symposia and workshops for research professionals, summer internships for students, and even new degree programs. All are designed to ensure that today's students are tomorrow's leaders in biomedical research.

QB3 fosters industry and venture capital partnerships by identifying potential opportunities for research collaborations and support and by assisting faculty with intellectual property and technology transfer issues.
