Physical Biosciences Division One Stop
PBD is an interdisciplinary division that brings the full range of the physical and engineering sciences and modern biology to bear on problems in health, climate, environment, and energy. Using world-renowned facilities such as the Advanced Light Source (ALS) and the Molecular Foundry, PBD researchers perform fundamental research seeking to characterize and mimic biological molecules and functions.
PBD's research areas include: 1) Bio energy & Bio fuels; 2) Solar Energy; 3) Structural Biology & Genome Research; 4) Systems & Synthetic Biology; 5) Photobiology & Chemistry; 6) Theory & Technology Development.
PBD's major research sponsors are the US Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER) and Office of Basic Energy Research (BES), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
